The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for United
The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the WSL side.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Carrington
Securing the German international comes at a time when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
