A popular South African radio and club DJ has been shot dead in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a country struggling with persistent crime.

Warrick Stock, widely recognized as DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the central business district on the afternoon of Tuesday.

Police said the forty-year-old media personality was confronted by three suspects, with one began shooting at him before running away.

The purpose behind the incident remains unclear and no suspects have been apprehended have taken place, as per the official statement.

How It Happened

Authorities said that Stock was ambushed as he was departing from a location close to the Carlton Centre.

He had devoted time at the building overseeing the installation of safety equipment, which had been reportedly taken over by squatters, according to reports.

"It is alleged the deceased was approached by three unknown suspects after parking his vehicle, and they shot at him before running from the location on foot," authorities said.

Surveillance tape reportedly captured a man with dreadlocks and clad in what resembled a security uniform opening fire on Stock before fleeing.

The DJ sought to escape after he was wounded but fell down on the opposite side of the road.

It was further revealed that Stock had an weapon on his person and no items were stolen during the assault.

Crucial forensic evidence, like spent shells, were found at the crime scene.
