Seamer Gus Atkinson Compounds the English team's Fitness Worries.

'Serious blow' for England as Atkinson is forced off suffering a hamstring problem.

The English seamer further complicated England's injury problems after leaving the ground on the second morning of the fourth Ashes Test versus the Australians.

Atkinson felt a problem in his left hamstring post-delivery of the fourth over on Saturday.

The touring camp indicated the 27-year-old felt some "soreness" and required time on the sidelines for further assessment "over the next few hours".

The concluding match in this Ashes battle at the SCG starts on Sunday, 4 January.

England have previously lost key quicks Mark Wood with a knee problem and Jofra Archer with an abdominal strain on this Ashes tour.

A replacement bowler was brought into the squad as injury reinforcement.

Atkinson struggled early in the series, claiming a mere three wickets.

He was left out of the third Test, before being recalled for the fourth Test as Archer's replacement.

The county bowler improved at the MCG, bagging two scalps with the ball, and scoring 28 runs as a batsman as one of just three English batsmen to get into double digits.

After bowling one over late on the first day, he came back on Saturday morning and removed Scott Boland taken by the wicketkeeper.

However, on the final ball of that over, he bowled a change of pace to the batsman and promptly felt for his hamstring.

The English bowler was recalled for the Melbourne match having missed the previous Test.
