Followers Demand Detainment of Man Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal followers of the actress are urging that a individual who leaped a barricade and seized the performer during the recent Wicked: For Good launch be taken into custody or expelled from Singapore.
A widely shared video shows the individual from Australia shoving aside media personnel and lunging at Grande while the cast made its way down a yellow carpet surrounded by onlookers.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo promptly pulled the shocked star away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being removed of the event by event staff.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "free after being taken in", though legal records showed that he was due to attend court on the next day. It is uncertain if he was faced legal action.
History of Disruptions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Troll Most Hated", has crashed a performance. His Instagram feed features recordings of him disturbing other celebrity events, including breaching the performance area at Katy Perry's Sydney show in recently and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers event in the same location last year.
"Measures must be taken applied against him as this is evidently a punishable act," commented an Instagram user, in a response to a video Mr Wen posted of his actions.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" a different Instagram user remarked.
Supporters Voice Worry Over Grande's Safety
Numerous supporters accused Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had revealed experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder after a suicide bomb attack at the end of her May 2017 performance in Manchester, killing 22 people and wounding numerous individuals.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" commented one more response on Instagram.
Several attendees also faulted security officers at the premiere for not being sufficiently alert; while different individuals demanded social media platforms to block Mr Wen's content.
Response and Event Details
In clips spreading on the internet, Grande appeared surprised when she was grabbed by the individual. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed reassuring her while Mr Wen was led out by security.
Grande has remained silent on the situation, and the remaining proceedings carried on uninterrupted.
Hundreds of fans had congregated in a crowd of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good regional premiere in a Singapore shopping center, including several who had waited for as long as a significant duration before it commenced.
The movie, to be launched on 21 November, is the follow-up of a two-part version of the acclaimed stage musical Wicked, which revolves around the unexpected bond between two contrasting witches.
The show itself is a derivative of the 1900 children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the good witch Glinda, was decked out in a rosé sequin dress at the premiere while Erivo, who plays the wicked witch, wore a black tube gown embroidered with roses.
They were joined by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the most successful movie of 2024 in the UK, and earned a dozen Academy Award nods, securing two for excellent wardrobe and artistic direction.
