England to Launch Euro 2028 Campaign at City’s Home Ground
England’s men’s team will commence their Euro 2028 journey at the Manchester City’s stadium, provided that they attain the expected passage for a tournament staged throughout the majority of the UK and the Republic of Ireland.
The Etihad Stadium has not hosted an England men’s match since the spring of 2016, when the Turkish team were overcome 2-1 in a exhibition match, but is highly likely to stage the national team for their inaugural game on Saturday 10 June 2028.
The English side are scheduled to play their last two group stage games at Wembley Stadium, but, should they win the preliminary round, their round of 16 match would be held at the Newcastle stadium. Placing second would mean commencing the elimination stage at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Championship Launch and Demonstration
The event was inaugurated at an ceremony in central London on Wednesday night. Key representatives from European football’s governing body and the host FAs were confronted as they approached the venue by around fifty activists, who urged Israel to be removed from the sport because of the situation in Gaza.
Placards were raised with slogans stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators chanted: “Kick Israel out.”
Event Schedule
The first match of Euro 2028 will be staged at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, on Friday 9 June, a fixture that will feature the Dragons if they secure a place.
Wembley Stadium will host both semi-finals and the final, which will be played on Sunday 9 July with a commencement at 5:00 PM.
It is anticipated that an earlier start, which will also be implemented for Champions League finals from next season, will cater to households and help engage a more diverse set of audiences.
Host Nations
The Ireland are set to play their first game at the Dublin Arena and the Tartan Army would do the same at Hampden Park.
The national sides of all four hosts will take part in the qualification process; two guaranteed slots will be held in reserve for any that fail to qualify for the finals through the standard process.
Venues and Knockout Stage
The Birmingham venue and The North London arena round out the nine host stadiums. Every stadium will hold at least one playoff fixture, with the quarterfinal matches held at each country’s national stadium.
The qualifying draw will be staged in the Northern Irish capital, which was dropped as a tournament location last year when it was revealed the proposed venue could not be renovated in time, on 6 December 2026.
Leadership Comment
“The event will be a tournament for the fans and a celebration of everything we value about the football – its fervor and power to unite individuals.”
Over 3 million admissions, a record for a UEFA European Championship, are anticipated to be released to fans.
