At the budget last week, appropriate selections were enacted for Britain, cutting the cost of energy with a £150 reduction in charges, defending public healthcare and tackling the scourge of child poverty by scrapping the two-child restriction. We also ensured that the income generated through taxes was done justly, with everyone contributing but those with the broadest shoulders bearing an appropriate burden.

Because of the policies implemented, the budget established a firmer financial footing, curbing inflationary pressures and state borrowing costs. This is crucial for defending our public services, when a tenth of all expenditures by government goes on borrowing costs.

Expanding Economic Measures

The budget builds on the action we have already taken to enhance economic performance: directing £120bn toward new investments in such things as roads, rail and energy; enacting the biggest planning reforms in a generation to back builders, not blockers; advocating for the growth of Heathrow and Gatwick; and establishing trading partnerships with the EU, India and the US.

In combination, these have allowed us to exceed our growth forecasts.

Renewing Our Nation

As I explained at the party conference, the government’s purpose is exactly the renewal of our commercial landscape, our neighborhoods and our nation. Via these methods, we will halt deterioration and reestablish confidence in our country.

We will take on those on the left and right who only offer complaints and whose approach would lead to additional deterioration. I want to emphasize, turning on the borrowing taps or bringing back fiscal restraint – that is the approach of deterioration and I will not accept it.

That is why I am asking the business secretary to confront the variety of unnecessary embellishment and needless paperwork that add to costs and impede our industrial strategy.

Benefits System Overhaul

Commercial rejuvenation additionally necessitates that we must continue to overhaul social security. We took over an ineffective structure that left children too poor to eat and which wrote off young people as too sick to work.

That is why we have appointed an ex-health minister to make actionable suggestions to help young people with health conditions access work, training or education – ensuring they are supported to succeed instead of excluded.

Global Commerce Improvement

Lastly, we need additional measures to help our businesses trade internationally. There is no credible economic vision for Britain that does not place us as a welcoming, business-oriented country.

We need to acknowledge the reality that the botched Brexit deal substantially damaged our finances. You do not need to have a PhD in economics to know that constructing needless commercial obstacles with your largest commercial ally will hinder development and boost prices.

Therefore a component of our economic renewal will be maintaining progress in the direction of a stronger commercial partnership with the EU. Should we obtain less expensive nourishment, improve development and produce work opportunities by having a closer relationship with the EU, we should.

A Substantial Strategy for Significant Challenges

A budget based on fair choices for Britain must be supported by resolve to achieve the financial revitalization that the country needs.
